Stage 1
The Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) system is used to achieve effective and inexpensive anaerobic wastewater treatment.
Naturally occurring micro-organisms degrade the organic material in the wastewater without the presence of oxygen.
Stage 2
Millions of microorganisms grow on a fixed media with large surface area in the presence of oxygen, allowing them to degrade the remaining organic material and nutrients from the wastewater.
Oxygen is introduced to the system passively without the use of any mechanical energy.
